After a 26-year career in publishing, working with many New York Times and national bestselling authors as well as notable debut fiction and non-fiction, I developed my literary consulting business to work more closely with authors, helping them to achieve their maximum success. I’ve edited literary novelists such as Sena Jeter Naslund and Andrew Winer and commercial authors including Michael Crichton and Elmore Leonard. My editorial experience and personal interests also include narrative non-fiction, history, memoir and biography.
I began my career at Random House in 1984 as an editorial assistant; my most recent position was V.P. & Editor in Chief of Henry Holt. From 1995 to 1997, I held the position of Editorial Director at Dell/Delacorte and for the next ten years, before moving to Holt, I worked at HarperCollins where I was V.P. & Executive Editor and S.V.P. & Publishing Director.
I have been a guest lecturer with the Masters in Publishing program at New York University. I am married to the novelist Jamie M. Saul.
